Last night, still woozy from a 12-hour flight, I drank a toast with Simon and Artyom and made myself even woozier. Then I pressed that big, green button and our Kickstarter went live. It was late evening in Sofia, but my internal clock told me it was early morning in Seattle. I felt like I'd only just climbed out of Lake Union, but my back was sore, the cat had used my pillow as a litter box, and the whiskey was still in my luggage*. I added another layer of Fabreeze to my mattress and went to watch a bed-time cartoon with my kids. When I woke up twelve hours later, Sharp Eye was funded. Thank you. Thanks to Artyom, who would not let go of this project, Jason, who sprinted all summer to get the colors ready, Simon, who shepherded us through the whole process, and of course you, you beasts! You funded our comic! We can print it now! What comes next is simple and exciting. We already have Sharp Eye ready, so all you have to do is sit tight while we finish the campaign and send CRWN what they need. Then you'll get a comic that is either beautiful, extra beautiful, or shining with celestial splendor, depending on which stretch goals we meet. At the end of the campaign, on or near October 3rd, we'll have a virtual launch party. You'll get a link. Finally, I'll polish the script for the next issue, and Artyom will start drawing it. Sharp Eye 2 will come out in fall 2026. Enjoy the first six pages of the comic, and if you haven't yet, go make your pledge to get a copy of Sharp Eye. Again, thank you all. And talk to you soon,

The story short: Wealthgiver starts today The long story: I'm serializing my new novel on Patreon and Substack. As with Fellow Tetrapod, I’m doing the final edits on Wealthgiver as I serialize it. This is exciting for me, and it means that I’ll be changing things based on reader feedback. So that’s more exciting for you. Wealthgiver will continue until July 2025, at which point I’ll make the complete novel available for purchase and begin serializing it for free on Royal Road. Until July, only my paying patrons and subscribers will be able to read the novel or effect its writing. After that, I’ll have some new stories ready for you. In the mean time, my previous novels are now available for purchase on Patreon. Patrons can already read them, but if you're a non-patron and you want to try out some of my work, I can recommend PETROLEA, THE WORLD'S OTHER SIDE, and GROOM OF THE TYRANNOSAUR QUEEN. Meanwhile, FELLOW TETRAPOD is still free for everyone. Speaking of free, free subscribers and patrons will still get my newsletters once a month. In fact, they'll get them a week earlier than before. Paid subscribers, on the other hand, will get Wealthgiver, the next serial novels and short stories for $3 a month. So, join me, readers. And thank you, Dan The serialization starts now on Royal Road and (last week) on my Patreon.

My alternate history thriller The World's Other Side begins serialization today. Please go sample the first scene. cover art by Stefan Tosheff Alright, here we go! My speculative-evolution serial novel Fellow Tetrapod is finally live on Royal Road. Go check it out. If it looks like your sort of thing, follow the story. It updates every weekday. (if you want to know more...) Koenraad Robbert Ruis used to be a paleontologist, but now he's a cook at the United Nations embassy to the Convention of Sophonts. His bosses must negotiate with intelligent species from countless alternate earths, and Koen must make them breakfast. It turns out, though, that Koen is rather better at inter-species communication than any other human in this world (all nine of them). Everyone loves to eat (certain autotrophs excepted). Fellow Tetrapod is an speculative-evolution office comedy about food preparation, diplomacy, and what it’s like to be a talking animal. Serialized every weekday on Royal Road and (one week earlier) Patreon Cover art by Simon Roy. Illustrations by Tim Morris. |
